THIS IS KUNKUSH. He arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos with his family back in November after they fled violence in Iraq.
Buzzfeed News reports that the cat soon became separated from the family – despite their best efforts, he could not be found, and they had to move on to their new home without him.
A few days later a dirty Kunkush was discovered by Greek fishermen, who gave him the name Dias. They took him to the local vet, where American volunteers helping refugees on the island started the Facebook page Reunite Dias in hope of finding his family.
Within weeks, he was fostered by a woman in Berlin, who said she would adopt him if no one came forward.
The search continued and last week, the Facebook page received a message from Norway, saying Dias/Kunkush’s family had moved in next door and had read about the search in the Daily Mail.
Now, after a journey of 4000km, Kunkush is back with his owners. The Guardian was there for the exact moment they met again:
Who’s chopping onions, there’s something in our eyes, etc.
